While at Julia Tripp's 7th birthday party, 8-28-13. all the girls were running on the grass, doing tricks to show off their gymnastics skills. Naomi ran and did an ariel. She was so excited that she ran to do it again, but second guessed herself and tried to catch her fall with her right hand. That led to sitting on the side lines, rubbing her wrist, then crying. I walked over to see if she was ok, and she just put her face into my side and cried, so something was hurt. Ice was put on it and she recovered and wanted to play, but it was a school night and we needed to get home. The next morning it still hurt so I taped it up with KT tape, gave her some motrin, put the ice pack on it again, and sent her to school. After school it still hurt, into the night it hurt and the next morning it was still sore, so I called and made an appointment with a specialist referred by our pediatrician. I picked her up at school, yes, I made her go, to see the dr, have her hand xrayed, have an exam of her movement and show him where it hurt, then have the dr tell us no bones were broken. Great! But where it was sore was right in the growth plate, that is only a thin dark spot between the wrist and arm bones. So for someone her age the general consensus is to put a short arm cast on it so nothing moves around or causes any more damage than needed. You can see by the picture below that she was very excited when she heard the dr say "cast."
Naomi has never had an X-ray before and was so worried that they would have to give her a shot or put a lazor or needle in her wrist. She watched the technicians every move.

The male nurse applied the cast. Her color of preference was light blue, but they ran out of that color, so she settled for neon pink. The rules were explained as followed: 1. DO NOT GET IT WET. 2. Do not stick anything down inside to itch it. & 3. You can bang on the outside with something heavy to itch it. Naomi has taken these rules very seriously!
I returned Naomi to school, hard cast and all, and waited for Audrey, who was with a friend to be brought home. At 1:30 we left to go pick up the Joyner boys in our ward at Monroe Elementary. Their mom asked me to pick them up since she was at Disneyland helping in a booth for the Disney 5K. They are good boys and ended up hanging out with us for the rest of the afternoon. The kids swam, played games, ate spagetti and hung with us till we went to the Terrills' Annual Back to School Ice Cream Social. See below...

Two years ago, Dawn was 8 months pregnant with her 5th child and I was amazed that she was standing doing this. This year, pregnant with her 6th, I was even more impressed with her being 8 months pregnant, standing in the 100 degree heat, serving ice cream with a smile. She is Super Woman.
