Naomi's first cast and Annual Terrill Ice Cream Social

While at Julia Tripp's 7th birthday party, 8-28-13. all the girls were running on the grass, doing tricks to show off their gymnastics skills. Naomi ran and did an ariel. She was so excited that she ran to do it again, but second guessed herself and tried to catch her fall with her right hand. That led to sitting on the side lines, rubbing her wrist, then crying. I walked over to see if she was ok, and she just put her face into my side and cried, so something was hurt. Ice was put on it and she recovered and wanted to play, but it was a school night and we needed to get home. The next morning it still hurt so I taped it up with KT tape, gave her some motrin, put the ice pack on it again, and sent her to school. After school it still hurt, into the night it hurt and the next morning it was still sore, so I called and made an appointment with a specialist referred by our pediatrician. I picked her up at school, yes, I made her go, to see the dr, have her hand xrayed, have an exam of her movement and show him where it hurt, then have the dr tell us no bones were broken. Great! But where it was sore was right in the growth plate, that is only a thin dark spot between the wrist and arm bones. So for someone her age the general consensus is to put a short arm cast on it so nothing moves around or causes any more damage than needed. You can see by the picture below that she was very excited when she heard the dr say "cast."

Naomi has never had an X-ray before and was so worried that they would have to give her a shot or put a lazor or needle in her wrist. She watched the technicians every move.

This is the dr showing us the there is not a brake according to the X-rays.

The male nurse applied the cast. Her color of preference was light blue, but they ran out of that color, so she settled for neon pink. The rules were explained as followed: 1. DO NOT GET IT WET. 2. Do not stick anything down inside to itch it. & 3. You can bang on the outside with something heavy to itch it. Naomi has taken these rules very seriously!

I returned Naomi to school, hard cast and all, and waited for Audrey, who was with a friend to be brought home. At 1:30 we left to go pick up the Joyner boys in our ward at Monroe Elementary. Their mom asked me to pick them up since she was at Disneyland helping in a booth for the Disney 5K. They are good boys and ended up hanging out with us for the rest of the afternoon. The kids swam, played games, ate spagetti and hung with us till we went to the Terrills' Annual Back to School Ice Cream Social. See below...

I had a full car!!

The Terrills' Annual Back to School Ice Cream                    Social 2013!

Two years ago, Dawn was 8 months pregnant with her 5th child and I was amazed that she was standing doing this. This year, pregnant with her 6th, I was even more impressed with her being 8 months pregnant, standing in the 100 degree heat, serving ice cream with a smile. She is Super Woman.

Audrey really wanted you to show you her popcorn in her mouth.

Pre School Shopping in Los Angeles and FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 2013

Every time I go shopping with my girls, they beg me to buy little trinkets that are way too expensive for their plastic worth. So my response is, "We can find that cheaper in LA!" The girls keep asking when we were going to LA, so I decided to take them for a little shopping spree the day before school started.  I did not even attempt to battle Audrey in the confines of the filthy shopping district of LA. I had asked a friend to keep her for the morning, which she graciously accepted. Hallelujah. So Naomi, Heidi and I ventured to Maple and Los Angeles streets to walk around and just browse the many vendors. I explained before hand that we needed to do a lot of looking before we buy. And we can barter with the vendors a little. So it was quite the experience for both girls. Before we got there Naomi asked if we could walk around the "mall." I told her she is in for a big shock, cause where we were going is NOT a mall. It is crowded and dirty and they needed to stay close.

I was proud of me, for not letting them con me into buying unneeded or unnecessary "things." We went away with a few iPod cases, hello kitty glasses and some 45 cent jewelry. Success!

Later that night, after running to the dollar store...
To show the teachers that I care about them, and am concerned for their sanity, and I care about my children's education, I've started a terrible tradition of putting together "Teacher Survival Kits" for each teacher. I started this last year. However, this year Heidi has 2 teachers that split the week, so they have 1 to share.

I also had run to Costco for lunch foods, and a huge light bulb went on: I put all the lunch food on one shelf so I can grab all food and snacks from one place, put in lunches, and be done. Glorious, Amazing, Brilliant...! Why did it take me 5 years of having kids in school for me to figure this out?

Finding out Naomi and Heidi's Teachers

The drive to Mayflower Elementary. Naomi was still leery of going back.

The girls carrying their lunches, back packs and teacher baskets. Too much stuff... And apparently Audrey thinks it's winter time. Look at my instagram picture below and you'll see why. Ha!

                                                                     Naomi First:

First Grade!
Heidi and Caitlyn, so excited to be together again.

                                                              Mrs Casey, she's awesome!

Apparently, some child had made a sign to put up at the school. Well, I hope it was a child...

After school Slurpees! It was so hot so we had to stop for a cool sugar refresher. 7/11

They made it through the first day, and I didn't cry at all. It was a success on all sides.
