Front Runner to Salt Lake City 2014

Monday, beginning of week 3 in Utah, we took the front runner to Salt Lake City. It was quite the funny adventure. We planned to take the 12:50 train with the Smiths' from Provo and meet Jana, kids and Chance in Orem, then meet Michelle and Stephanie at the Lehi stop.  But Wendy wasn't able to make it home in time from her chiropractor to pick up her kids and run to the Provo station. So she decided to drive up to the Orem Station. Jana and Chance were already there and I had been coordinating with them when we would leave and then arrive in Orem. I told Jana Wendy was on her way, hurrying, to the Orem Station. But as Jana could see our train pulling up, Wendy wasn't there yet. But just before we stopped, Wendy pulled up, Kennedy and chance grabbed kids and a stroller from the car. Then Wendy found the last parking spot and ran as fast as she could as I had stepped outside the door to tell her to run. This is the picture below. But as I took the picture, the door closed on me, everyone making it inside except me, Sydney Christensen and Wendy. That turned into a screaming frenzy cause the doors would not open even though we were pushing the button from the inside and out. Jana and Chance were yelling at the attendant inside as I tried to flag down the driver, but nothing happened. So through all out panic, Chance and Jana started to pry the door open just as the train started to move. So I squoze i, then grabbed Wendy, as a man on the outside came to help us try to pull the doors open and shove Sydney in. The doors only opened about 7 inches, but I was determined to make it through, and to get our whole group on as well. I'm sure it was a funny show for all those sitting patiently inside the train, those that had made it there on time. Ha! I did get a lot of the chaos on video cause I thought it would be funny to video Wendy running, but ended up getting myself shut out in the process. The video is a funny memory of us screaming and the squeezing through the door.

Once in Salt Lake, we got off the Front Runner to hop on the Blue line in the City tracks that took us to temple square. This was what happened when I tried to get a pick of our whole crew on the tracks, Thomas!!!

At the Church History Museum, they had some interesting tours for the kids. This was them learning how the pioneers on a ship would keep a compass of where they were going. Chance included!

This is where they learned about the gold plates and how the prophets wrote in calligraphy or indian script on the gold with a "stylus" which was a metal pencil. Each child was given their own board to practice writing the ancient letters.

This is where they learned about the church history art in the late 1800's.

Then we went to the play section where all the kids had to do the mexican dance with the skirts.

Of course we had to walk through temple square and take a cousins pic in front of the reflection pool, where it started to rain on us. So we walked to the City Creek Mall just to quickly walk through, get Mcdonalds ice cream, then head back to the tracks and Front Runner just as it started to rain. We huddled under the partitions as best we could as we waited the long 11 minutes for the train to come from Bountiful, headed toward Provo. It was a fun adventure for a day. A kind of Family Day Outing instead of FHE.

And of course being the mom, I got ice cream squashed to my bum by a child who was walking behind me and didn't see me stop. Heidi!!!
