Heidi Meeting Kindergarten Teacher 8-24-12

Poor Heidi has had the worst teeth in the world. She has been to the dentist so many times since last summer. Before we went to meet her teacher @ Mayflower Elementary, we had a not so fun visit to the dentist. We had been in and out with quick visits to check on an abscess she's had on her gums from an infection in a tooth that had been filled a few weeks before. So this day, after about 2 weeks on 2 different antibiotics, she went in to have a "pulpotomy" or baby root canal. I felt so bad for her when I saw her hands and feet stiffen up when she was given the numbing shot. Heidi is usually a statue of bravery when she is at the dentist. But this day, she was teary eyed. When Dr Segura walked away to let her gums numb, I tried to ask her if she was ok. Her eyes just got red and a little teary, but she wasn't going to let herself cry. So I sat on the patients chair with her and rubbed her legs and hands. She finally leaned in toward me and said with a quivering voice, "I didn't know they were going to give me shot!" I guess me preparing her by telling her they were going to do a root canal didn't quite process in her little brain. All in all, she was a trooper. I held her after they were done and carried her to the car. Then to sooth her sad soul, I drove through MacDonald's and bought her a fruit smoothie. It was a bummer to see her so sad, but she was able to look forward to meeting her teacher later in the day.

Meeting Ms Hernandez, Heidi's Kindergarten teacher.
Heidi had been anticipating this moment since last year. We had the chance to go to her school and actually meet her teacher before school even started. We found the bulletin board to see which room and teacher she has. Room 3! We walked to her room, picked up a clip board with a scavenger hunt attached, and started... First was her teacher, Ms Hernandez.

There were a bunch of fun things to explore in and outside the classroom.
Of course one thing was finding the play ground and going down the slide.

The last was to color a picture and put it on the "Apple Tree" bulletin board. She is ready!
